People are now ditching their cookers for air fryers in their kitchens. Air fryers are fast becoming mainstream, and are not showing any signs of slowing down. With these gadgets, you can now cook food without any oils and still keep that sweet taste and crisp/crunchy texture.

Air Fryer vs Oven

If you take a close look at these two pieces of equipment, they both operate on the same principle. Hot air is generated and distributed around the cooking space and this cooks your food. Before we dive in deeper, let’s look at each of them and discuss them separately.

Convection Ovens

Convection ovens have elements in them that heat up at the top and base of the oven chamber. These elements are made of coiled wire. The coils heat up as they conduct electricity. The heat is then radiated across the chamber. These ovens are also equipped with fans which help with the even distribution of heat across the chamber to allow for an even cooking.

Air Fryers

The air fryer does a better and faster job of distributing heat compared to the convection oven. In the air fryer, you have the heating element at the top, and the heat generated is distributed by the fan across the whole chamber. This way, there isn’t any direct heat source on the food.

When you need food to retain its crispy outer layer, the air fryer is a much better alternative. This is especially so because air fryers have a smaller chamber and this allows for more efficient circulation of heat compared to the convection oven.

With convection ovens, there is a need to thoroughly clean the racks and also wipe all drips and spills at the bottom of the chamber. Convection ovens are much bigger than the air dryers, and this is perhaps their only advantage over air dryers as you can cook more quantity of food at any given time.
