Husband. Father. Deep fry fanatic. Thanks for joining on me this crispy, delicious journey.

The death of Anthony Bourdain has been difficult for most of us. The tributes from across the globe have been touching and heartbreaking. While everyone handles loss differently, the At Least We Fried crew wanted to focus on what we loved about Bourdain’s time on our TVs.  While shows like No Reservations often focused on visits to other countries, we always loved watching Bourdain explore corners of the United States we had never been to. With that in mind, we’ve crunched the numbers to figure out what states Tony traveled to the most.

It’s no surprise that New York came in at the top of the list with 12 visits. Of those, 10 of them were to some part of New York City. Second on the list is California; Bourdain filmed in the Golden State 10 different times in total. With five trips to Los Angeles and four trips to San Francisco, these two make up two of the three cities he visited most often. Rounding out the top three with six visits is Texas. In all, Tony featured 30 of the 50 United States. He also filmed in Washington D.C. once, and the territory of Puerto Rico twice. The largest state never featured on any of the four shows? Virginia. (It should be noted Tony popped into a Peruvian Chicken restaurant in Virginia during the D.C. episode of No Reservations.

Our Methodology

So how did we come to this conclusion? We manually reviewed each episode listing for all four of Bourdain’s shows: A Cook’s Tour, No Reservations, The Layover, and Parts Unknown. Like any good research, you might find something to quibble with over our map. Some episodes covered a single city in a single state, while others spanned the country. In the end, when an episode would feature multiple states in the same episode we tried to pick the town in each state that Tony focused on the most. It’s not an exact science, but we did our best!
